Why Meeting Listeners Matters: Dominic Carter Visits Astoria, Queens The Power of Community Connections After more than four decades as a journalist, television reporter, radio host, author, and keynote speaker, one thing remains true: The most meaningful part of my work is meeting people. That's why I'm excited to spend time in Astoria, Queens, at the Astoria Summer Jam Community Fair. Community events provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with listeners, readers, parents, grandparents, caregivers, veterans, small business owners, and young people who represent the very best of America. From Foster Care to Broadcasting My own journey began under difficult circumstances. As a young child, I entered foster care before eventually being raised by my grandmother in the Bronx.
